High-temperature plastic deformation of $$\langle 110\rangle$$-oriented BaTiO3 single crystals

Abstract BaTiO 3 single crystals were deformed in compression along the $$\langle 110\rangle$$ ⟨ 110 ⟩ crystal axis to study plastic deformability and dislocation structures at high temperatures under different loading conditions. The yield strength is determined from stress–strain curves strain rate control, load cycling tests, step-wise conditions elucidate impact of measurement approach behavior. A comparison between chosen methods based on stress-dependent plots indicates that control measurements are a suitable alternative commonly used rate-control experiments metals. This allows avoiding overloading providing an estimate overall achievable rates ceramic. Activation energies activation volumes temperature range 1100–1170 °C indicate similar mechanical deformation behavior SrTiO . Graphical abstract
